At The Happy Outlet, our whole team believes in giving back to our beloved community. This year, we plan to do that in a tangible way by partnering with the local nonprofit organization Friends in Service Helping or FISH.
Friends in Service Helping the Carson City Community
FISH was created in 1979 in response to the growing number of homeless and hungry residents of Carson City. It began as a small food pantry, but now supports thousands of families with food donations and shelter year-round.
Today FISH operates the Friends of Citizens Under Stress or FOCUS homeless shelter for men as well as the Wylie House for women and families. These facilities are the only year-round, publicly accessible emergency shelters in Northern Nevada outside of Reno. FISH serves more than 330,000 food bank meals and 25,000 dining room meals to those in need each year.

Last year FISH served 7,286 people in 3,798 households. They packed 2,354 Holiday Baskets for hungry families to help them celebrate the holiday season. When you donate these 7 cans of food to us, you will directly impact another family.
More Information About FISH
FISH provides all of the following services to rural Northern Nevada:
- Three food banks located in Carson City, Dayton, and Gardnerville
- The Ross Medical Center
- Two year-round homeless shelters: FOCUS for men and the Wylie House for women and children
- Emergency warming shelter in winter when temps are below 15 degrees Fahrenheit
- Clothing donations for the homeless, under-employed, and fixed income residents
- Shower and laundry facilities
- Personal hygiene items
- Dental and eye glass services
- Educational materials for a variety of life skills
FISH also operates three thrift stores located in Carson City, Mound House, and Gardenerville. The revenue from these stores is used to provide the services above to those in need. By shopping at a FISH thrift store, you can help fund their work in our community.
